I like the perfect push up so much because it is just more comfortable for me - regular push ups aggravate my wrists after awhile, while I have no such discomfort with the PPU. Also I appreciate the twisting (and humming "Well I can mash potato... Well I can do the twist"*)

*Note: I have never hummed that song while doing pushups before. But I might start.

Re: A Home Gym Attempt

Yes, I definitely agree with you about using body weight as much as possible. If you can do hand stand push ups and the like, you really don't need weights, haha. The bar that I referenced is excellent. The only draw back is that the door can not be closed with it attached. However its not too bad, as the bar can easily be unhooked from the door frame. Punching bags are super fun. I used to use focus mits with the other reader of this blog. One of my friends leads classes on kettlebells. Maybe when you are in the area we should check out one of his classes.

Re: A Home Gym Attempt

Ah I enjoy working out at home as well. However, I've been more apt to try to do as many exercises utilizing my body weight as possible. I read the advice of some coach who said that you shouldn't be using weights if you can't handle your own body weight. So I do squats (sans weights obviously), pull ups, burpees, static holds (e.g., wall sits, plank), lunges, and whatever other interesting things that I can find or make up.

While my pull up bar is cheaper (it's the GoFit one), I wish that I had tried yours. It seems much more mobile.

I also really want to get a punching bag and kettlebells someday. :)
